What kind of volunteers do we need?

We need veterinary medicine volunteers, especially folks trained in high-volume, high-quality spay/neuter. See below for the specific roles we seek to fill. The reservations we work on are sovereign nations. Therefore, veterinarians and technicians may be licensed in any state.

HVSN Surgical Veterinarians

We rely heavily on high-volume spay/neuter surgical vets. We cap the number of surgeries one veterinarian is expected to do at 35 per day. We typically do 80% dogs and 20% cats. We focus on dogs under 60 lbs and between two months and six years old.

HVSN Support Veterinarians

These vets do check-in, recovery and check-out. Typically the veterinarian will do a one minute exam and then sedate the animal. They will provide support on the recovery mat and will assist with checkout.

Wellness Veterinarians

These vets may do vaccine clinics, recovery and/or treat sick patients. This role is for vets who do not specialize in HVSN.

HVSN Surgical Technicians

These technicians work on the mobile rig prepping patients for surgery. Typically this role includes shaving animals down, expressing bladders and putting the animal on the anesthesia machine. It may also require drawing up surgical drugs. Technicians must have at least five years experience working at a HVSN clinic.

HVSN Recovery Technicians

These technicians recover animals on the recovery mat, assist with checkout and check in.

Kennel Technicians

These technicians assist with check-in, and transport the animal from their kennel onto the mobile rig, and from the mobile rig back to the kennel. They also load animals in and out of cars. This role requires superior fear-free based animal handling techniques and the ability to lift up to 60 lbs. They also keep the kennels clean.

Pack Technicians

These technicians run the autoclave and make packs. They also clean and sterilize all other surgical equipment.

Labor

Folks in this role set up & break down the kennels. Stock the kitchen and serve lunch. Mop floors and keep equipment organized. Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs. They also manage the parking lot and merchandise tables.

Admin

Admins assist with data entry in the computer system and act as a scribe at check in. They text owners for pickup and prepare take-home paperwork and prescriptions.
